John J. Davis III, Of Counsel

John Davis is an accomplished former scientist and law school graduate with competitive and academic experience in Mock Trial, Moot Court, Domestic and International Commercial Arbitration, Mediation, Patent Law, Copyright Law, Intellectual Property Litigation, Transactions, and Negotiations.  He currently represents clients in intellectual property infringment and disparagement matters, commercial transactions and negotiations, and complex contractual disputes.  Currently, he serves as an Advocacy Coach for South Texas College of Law, coaching teams competing in international and domestic arbitration.  He also works pro bono with the Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts to assist local artists in legal matters.

During law school, Dr. Davis served as President of South Texas College of Law’s Intellectual Property & Technology Law Society as well as President of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Advocates.    He worked as a Special Projects Assistant for a local intellectual property firm.  He also worked as a Legal Intern for Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts.  Independent of his legal career, Dr. Davis also works as a marketing, advertising, and online publishing small business owner responsible for entity maintenance, deal negotiations, collaborations, daily operations, strategy, and leadership.

Prior to law school, Dr. Davis worked as an Associate Scientist at Lexicon Pharmaceuticals in The Woodlands, TX, in the Immunology and Oncology departments.  His Ph.D. was obtained in Virology and Gene Therapy at UT-MD Anderson Cancer Center, working in the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department.  He has extensive scientific background in clinical disease models as well as basic sciences, including biology, chemistry, genetics, virology, oncology, molecular biology, genetic engineering, and gene therapy.

  • Represented clients in trademark examinations and interactions with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Represented clients in mediation and settlement negotiations before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Represented pro bono clients through Texas Accounts and Lawyers for the Arts in forming entities, protecting intellectual property, and drafting and negotiating contracts.

  • Negotiated and drafted corporate separation, settlement and release, and reorganization of limited liability company.
  • Prepared submissions to US Copyright and US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Represented clients in negotiations and settlement of real estate property transactions and landlord/tenant agreements.
